When I was around 12 years old, my sister Patricia took me to the Van Gogh exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The events of that day helped shape who I am, not just as an artist but as a person.

Later in life, as I learned more about the life of Van Gogh, specifically about the tragedies and struggles that surrounded him, well, this all proved to be a source of inspiration, as the beauty that emerged from his pain and suffering went on to influence and uplift countless others that followed, myself included.

In this week’s episode of Art Wunderful, I talk a bit about my perspective on Van Gogh and the potential for beauty to emerge from darkness. My hope is that it might be of some solace to those of us who find ourselves outside of our comfort zone at the moment.
